The ILCAA Core Project “Field Archiving of Memory: Dynamics of Cooperation within the Islamic Society” (FAM) and the UCLA Asia Pacific Center invite contributions to a workshop on the politics of belonging in modern Iran.
The workshop will examine how ethnic, religious, linguistic, regional, and national categories are understood, used, and contested in particular settings. We welcome historically informed ethnographic and qualitative research, archival studies, and work on digital or diaspora settings with clear connections to Iran. Early-career researchers and doctoral students are especially encouraged to apply.
Proposals should include a provisional title, an abstract of up to 500 words, a short biographical note of up to 100 words, and the preferred mode of participation—in person or online.
Application deadline: October 25, 2026
Submit your proposal through the online application form
Applicants will be informed of the outcome by November 2, 2026.
